The full trailer for the Order of the Phoenix movie coming out July 13 has finally been released, and it looks awesome. I had to watch it three times before I really understood what was going on. For now, it’s only at Yahoo!, but it’s bound to be at Apple Trailers before long. I recommend HD at 720p.

Translating Harry Potter

There is a really interesting article in the British newspaper The Guardian about the challenges involved in translating the Harry Potter books to other languages. Some of the points made in the article apply to any translations, but the Harry Potter series does present unique challenges with all of its made-up words.

Just watched it. Fantastic movie. Brilliant cast. Incredible soundtrack that contains not just one, but two songs from the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” album and Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.” I loved it. Cross another one off the list.

In Agony Waiting for Harry Potter 7

I challenge you to read the Known Plot Details section of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows article on Wikipedia and not want to find J.K. Rowling and force some Veritaserum down her throat. Deathly Hallows is going to be legendary – the sheer number of loose ends that will finally be tied up and the many characters who we will finally learn the whole story about gives me shivers.

Sunday Foxtrot Treat

Today’s Foxtrot is a synergy of two of my all-time favorite comics. Unfortunately it was just announced that there will be no more Foxtrot dailies after this year is over. This means that out of my four favorite comic strips — Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, Foxtrot, and Garfield — only one is still being drawn regularly.

“Kill Caps Lock” on the Mac

I can’t believe I didn’t know this before. It is so simple to completely disable the Caps Lock key on any Mac. I always hit it when I want to hit tab or shift instead. I never use it intentionally (when’s the last time you typed a signficant number of capital letters in a row?), so I am thrilled that I have found this tip.

Mac Developers are Awesome

TextMate, the best Mac text editor out there, received an update a few days ago, and it is now Halloween compatible. Check out its awesome new icon at right. There are at least two other thematic surprises hidden within the application that I won’t spoil…

Update: Halloween is over, and TextMate has reverted back to the normal theme. Apparently some people didn’t like the implications of the picture. They probably still live with their parents. Luckily the icon is still available.

Searchable Calvin & Hobbes Database

Found this searchable database of all of the Calvin and Hobbes comics published. They are also indexed by date. I really want the complete set for Christmas, though.
